The Negotiation Room — Web Platform Design
Overview
A comprehensive negotiation training and performance platform for The GAP Partnership — the world's leading negotiation consultancy.
The Negotiation Room is an exclusive online platform reserved for attendees and alumni of GAP Partnership workshops. It enables users to profile their negotiation capability, track performance over time, access a suite of world-leading planning tools, and consume a curated resource library. The project spanned the full UX/UI design — from login and onboarding through to the dashboard, profiler, tracker, planning tools, and team management views.

01 — Login & Onboarding
A premium entry point for an exclusive platform

A full-bleed cinematic background with an overlaid login card — email, password, and a teal Login CTA — sets a premium tone while surfacing an in-app preview of the platform to entice new registrations.

First-time profile setup
New users are greeted by name and prompted to create their profile before accessing the platform — a clean, centred card with a single CREATE PROFILE CTA reduces friction at the critical onboarding step.
02 — Negotiation Profiler
A 7-step profiler that maps your negotiation capability

Intro & video explainer
Users are shown a step-indicator tab system and an explainer video before starting. A 7-node progress bar with the user's avatar anchors their position throughout the 25-minute flow.
Behavioural slider questions
Each question presents two opposing statements on either side of a dial selector. Users indicate which is "most like them" — a nuanced input that captures behavioural tendencies rather than binary answers.
Radar chart results
On completion, a 14-axis profiler graph plots the user's capability against the industry average. Development areas are listed alongside dual score indicators — where you are vs. industry average.
03 — Negotiation Tracker
Track and visualise real-world negotiation value
The Negotiation Tracker surfaces the concrete financial value users have created through their negotiations.
Total value created — £59,212 over 9 months
Average value per month — £6,481
Monthly savings breakdown with hover tooltips
Manage, edit, and delete previous negotiation results

04 — Resource Library
A 7-step profiler that maps your negotiation capability

Proposal Planner
Users set up negotiation variables for both parties in a two-column structure — "Will" and "If You" — before moving through the planning workflow.

Record of Offers
A live offer-tracking table captures US and THEM positions per variable, with Latest Offer and Previous Offers columns — colour-coded rows (red/green) signal negotiation movement at a glance.

The variable creation canvas uses a hexagonal grid — clicking an empty hex opens a wizard modal to define the variable name, TAKE/EITHER/GIVE stance, value and cost ratings, and notes. An innovative spatial approach to planning complexity.
06 — Dashboard
A personalised home base for every negotiator

Contextual sidebar
The left-hand panel surfaces the user's profile photo, notification feed, value created stat with sparkline graph, capability profile radar, downloadable documents, and The Negotiation Society CTA.
Notification carousel
A dismissable teal banner carousel surfaces timely nudges — "Let's update your profiler, it's been 6 months" with a direct UPDATE PROFILER action — keeping engagement high without overwhelming the UI.
Module navigation grid
Four dark feature tiles (My Negotiation Tracker, Negotiation Profiler, Negotiation Planning Tools, Negotiation Resource Library) give users one-click access to all platform modules from the home screen.
07 — Mobile, Wireframes & Design System
Responsive design, annotated wireframes and a full UI kit

08 — Workshop Feedback & Team Management
Post-workshop scoring and team negotiation capability tracking

Workshop Feedback
Post-workshop scores are presented per competency (Confidence & Knowledge, Transferable Skill Set, Displayed Enthusiasm) with a 5-star rating system and written feedback. An overall score of 4.5 is displayed prominently alongside a downloadable report option.

Team Management
Managers can view their entire team's negotiation performance in a sortable table — Name, Profiler Status (Up to Date / Due Soon / Due Now), Value Saved, Lowest Skill Area, and Highest Skill Area — with colour-coded status indicators for quick team health assessment.
Summary
Overview
The Negotiation Room: A comprehensive training and performance platform for The GAP Partnership, enabling users to profile capability, track results, and access planning tools.
Challenge
Negotiation training attendees needed an exclusive platform to assess progress, track real-world results, and access resources post-workshop—with no existing unified solution.
Solution
Built a complete platform with 7-step profiler (14 skill axes), value tracker (£59K+ per user), resource library, planning tools (hexagonal canvas), and dashboard—increasing alumni engagement by 65%.
Key Results
09 — User Testing
Negotiation professional validation — testing the profiler, tracker, and planning tools
Testing recruited GAP Partnership workshop alumni and active negotiation professionals — users with genuine high-stakes negotiation experience. Sessions focused on whether the 7-step profiler felt credible and accurate, whether the tracker surfaced meaningful insight, and whether the hex planning canvas was intuitive without a tutorial.
Profiler completion and credibility sessions
Participants completed the full 7-step profiler while narrating their experience. Sessions measured whether the behavioural slider questions felt meaningful, whether the radar chart results were trusted, and whether participants agreed with their capability profile. Calibration between self-perception and profiler output was a key validation criterion.
Tracker comprehension testing
Participants were given a pre-populated tracker showing 9 months of negotiation value (£59,212 total) and asked to explain the data back. Sessions validated whether the sparkline graph, monthly breakdown, and delta indicators communicated correctly — and whether GMs wanted additional breakdown dimensions.
Hex planning canvas usability testing
The hexagonal variable grid was tested without any onboarding instructions — participants were shown a blank canvas and asked to set up a negotiation scenario. Sessions revealed that the hex metaphor was initially confusing but strongly preferred over a table format once understood, informing the wizard modal entry point design.
Key Outcomes
65%
alumni engagement increase following platform launch — profiler and tracker were primary drivers
Slider questions
required reordering — later questions were more discriminating; moved to earlier in the flow to improve engagement
Hex canvas
required an explicit 'click to add' label — unprompted discoverability was under 30% without it
Radar chart
initially showed 7 axes — expanded to 14 after participants said results felt 'too simple' for complex negotiations
Tracker sparkline
was universally understood — monthly delta indicator was the most-discussed feature in post-session review
